KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. | September 15, 2021
The sky was blue, the sun was bright, and the mood was even brighter. The groundbreaking ceremony for Seafields at Kiawah Island unfolded on the type of gorgeous autumn day the Island is known for.
More than 70 guests attended the September 15th event, which took place on the future grounds of Kiawah’s first, and only, 62+ luxury life plan community. Hosted by key players involved in the creation of Seafields, the celebration boasted several local luminaries in attendance. During opening remarks, led by South Street Partners’ Chris Randolph, Kiawah Mayor John Labriola shared his enthusiasm for the project. “I want to recognize everyone from South Street Partners and Big Rock Partners for their willingness to listen to the community and for creating a workable vision for innovative senior living,” he said, adding, “and for maintaining the patience needed to see it through.”
South Street Partners’ Jordan Phillips and Lori Wittman, CFO of Big Rock Partners, were in attendance, as were John Gregg, Mayor of the Town of Seabrook and representatives from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). The world-class medical institution will be introducing an on-site wellness clinic to Seafields.
Following a brief video overview of the Seafields at Kiawah Island and welcoming remarks from Randolph and Big Rock Partners’ President/CEO Richard Ackerman, the groundbreaking took place. A line-up of hosts and honored guests, shovels in hand, marked the beginning of construction by digging a ceremonial scoop of dirt from the terrain.
